Matagorda Offshore Fishing Report

July 16th..... Had Harold, Leonard, and Ron, we started out with a limit of snapper. After that we decided to do some trolling. It wasn't even 3 minutes into trolling when a 45lb King sent the reel screaming and Ron got to experience a great fight and it was his first time to even saltwater fish! We later were able to pick up three nice AJ's and we did some trolling on the way back in but nothing was happening there.....

July 11
th....Today I had Rick Robertson and crew to do some fishing what a spectacular day. We had our limit of Snapper, some nice Kings one about 35lbs a nice Ling as well, and a couple of AJ's .

July 12th - Today was the annual Mermaid fishing tournament. I was Fishing with Chelsea A., Emily C., and Regina J., as always the category's we King, Ling, Dolphin. The tournament started at 6:00am but we were unable to break the Jetties until 8:00 b/c of a little motor trouble nothing major, changed the part and we were off. We pick up our first fish at about 10:00 a decent dolphin 8lbs I think. We started a drift and not a couple of minutes in our first King nothing special probably only a 10lb fish but we already had two of the three. Then the reel started screaming for Emily we got the King all the way to the boat before we lost it. Estimated at about 40lb a heart breaker, we then wasted a lot of time trying to catch another one that size but it didn't happen. We were still looking for our Ling with the fish we had we knew we needed a big Ling but all we could manage was some throw backs. Still had a great time fishing....can't wait until next year.

July 13th.....Had Dale and his son and three of his friends, we were able to get our snapper very quickly. So we proceeded to some deep water to due some trolling. We able to pick up 3 Wahoo one at about 45lbs. On our way back in we stop at a weed line and were able to pick up one more Hoo. What a great fish to catch and eat, had some Wahoo steaks that night can't get any fresher.

June 31st and July 1st - I had Jim Wilson and his three sons down for two days of fishing. Day 1 we were able to get a quick limit of Snapper so we continued on for some Kings we had two nice Kings and 34lbs and 33lbs.....What a fight they put on.

Day 2 we were trying to locate some AJ's we able to find some but were unable to land any; we were broke off four times. Saw one Ling but he wasn't in the mood.
